With their amazing sibling harmonies and instrumentalsophistication, it's easy to see why their popularity is rapidly on the rise.According to one critic, "Their singing is so smooth, it's like drivingdown a freshly paved highway in a new Cadillac." Another coined the term"smoothgrass" to describe their approach to music. Jen and Bev, on guitar and mandolin, and their mother Gae, on string bass,form the nucleus of the group. Veteran performers Michael Savatgy on banjo, andBryan Thurber on fiddle, provide additional instrumental support. accommodation in CordobaThe Dunton Sisters have family roots deep in traditional music. Theirgrandfather performed in a gospel quartet sponsored by Stamps-Baxter, famouspublishers of shape-note hymns. When he moved to Washington State, he broughthis music with him, influencing the family for generations to come. Milton Harkey, organizer of the Bluegrass Showdown talent contests, was sotaken with the Dunton Sisters that he immediately hired them for his BluegrassFirst Class festival in Asheville, North Carolina. After hearing them sing, thelegendary Tony Rice joined them on stage for one of their sets. The DuntonSisters have also performed at the world famous Station Inn in Nashville. |
